I'm glad I built the 250 ft V Beam antenna. The purpose in fact was for 11m dx from Europe. ON5KQ suggested it to me, when I was (foolishly) considering a vertical.

It works nearly as well as the Beverage for Europirates at the top end of 49 meters,too. May Fansome forgive me.

I used to do well with an upright "L", essentially a dipole with one leg going straight up. If you get the feedpoint about 6-7 feet off the ground it matches 50 ohm coax. I used them for both listening and pirating.
