INDONESIA. 7289.93, RRI Nabire. On May 30, Nabire experienced a moderate earthquake, so the station didn't go off the air today.
https://www.allquakes.com/earthquakes/quake-info/7645282/mag4quake-May-30-2023-Irian-Jaya-Region-Indonesia.html .

Marathon listening to this anomaly from RRI Nabire from tune-in at 0820 till tuned-out at 1040 UT. This is the longest
I have ever heard them staying on the air. Back on May 28, I heard them cut off at 0916*. Islamic segment today (and
28th) with Shalawat Tarhim prayer (0851-0858), followed by the Maghrib (sunset) call-to-prayer (0858-0901). Also
listening to this extended broadcast today was Art Delibert (well done!).

What was the Papua New Guinea station that got wiped out by the volcanic eruption in the first decade of this century? It was an easy catch with a loop until the volcano went off and they were swamped by a tsunami. I want to say Milne Bay, but I'm not sure?

Never mind, I did some digging and found out it was Rabaul in 1994. A city of 50,000 built inside a sunken caldera, turned sheltered bay on New Britain. Largest city in the province, but luckily they'd been prepping for an eruption for years and casualties were low.

Never live in the volcano.

Aug 29, 2014, the day of the eruption of the Tavurvur volcano, NBC East New Britain (3385 kHz.)
went silent, but returned to the air again on Sept 22. Unfortunately this station, as well as all the
other regional NBC stations have been silent on SW for many years now.

A bit of volcanic history should be remembered here. In 1994, both the Vulcan and Tavurvur volcanoes
erupted, destroying a major portion of Rabaul, which at the time was the provincial capital of ENB. As a
result the capital of ENB was moved to its present location at Kokopo.

One of the NBC PNG shortwave outlets was an easy catch in alaska when i lived here earlier in 2016. Here's some audio:

I even got a nice qsl on letterhead by email since the postal system was so poor then. i contacted the director of the company .. directly. .and he graciously obliged me.
