Globe wireless closure
« on: June 24, 2013, 2231 UTC »
I heard via UDXF that Globe wireless is notifying its customers of the shutdown of its HF digital stations

Dear All

As I mentioned a few weeks back, GW stations have been closing steadily over the
past months. The GW website doesn’t say anything to the effect, but apparently
customers have been notified.

8PO, HEC, VCT, VIE, VJS and HLF all seem to have disappeared and I have only
verified one channel of ZSC active recently.

Time to download Rivet and log those stations before they go into HF history!

Cheers

Here are the results of Globe Wireless HF network activity revision (26th & 27th of June 2013). RX QTH: Kiev, Ukraine, unless otherwise noted:

9HD: It seems, this node is inactive, no any GW signals from Malta were heard on all 9HD frequencies.
9MG: GW signal was heard on 17045,6 kHz.
A9M: Bahrain is still active: signals on 4256; 12673,5; 12709; 12756,5; 13119; 19698,5 kHz.
HLF: Some GW marker was on 12712 kHz approx., however it was too weak to decode ID. It is still unclear if HLF is active.
LFI: Channel markers were heard on 6467; 8683,5; 8705,5; 11145 and 12678 kHz.
LSD836: Some GW signal was heard via Twente web-SDR on 12736 kHz, however its ID was not decoded
SAB: At least active on 3264,4; 4347; 8489; 8591; 10360; 12641; 12818; 12851 kHz.
VCS: Was received on 8675,5; 13033,5; 17234,5 kHz.
XSV: I heard it only on 8617 kHz.
ZSC: Active on 16895 kHz.

I did not receive markers on the frequencies of other Globe Wireless nodes yet.

I should be very grateful for any additions to this list, especially on nodes from North, South, Central Americas and Pacific.

Thanks for the info.  I can't copy RTTY, but it's still fun to see which marine coast stations I can hear.  It would be sad if they all disappeared from the airwaves.

A question: are these "channel markers" the RTTY bursts I hear on some of the marine channels (when I say 'burst', I mean it sounds like a repeated, short RTTY transmission)?

Globe wireless uses it own proprietary digital mode.Until recently you had to have a high end decoder to decode the GW mode. Now it can be decoded or parts of it can be decoded with Ian Wraiths rivet. Available from here

info about rivet here:

7/2/13  3:20z  It looks like the HF shutdown is effective June 30. I don't see any GW stations active. Still no mention on their website.

It seems, A9M, LFI, SAB, VCS, XSV and probably ZSC are already off air. Also no any signs of LSD836 on Twente Web-SDR. However HLF was active on 12712 kHz on July 4th 2013.
