29.7 MHz - 30.0 MHz Band Logs, Observations etc.
« on: June 21, 2024, 1329 UTC »
29700 kHz to 30000 kHz (sometimes 30.005 MHz or 30.01 MHz on frequency allocation tables) 29,700 to 30,000 seems to be a "forgotten spectrum".

Paging logs

29.750 MHz
29.800 MHz
29.900 MHz

with 29.8 MHz and 29.9 MHz being the most active.  POCSAG, mostly narrowband.  29800 kHz and 29900 kHz.

29.750 MHz paging signals noted at 1309 UTC today 06/21/24 via the G8JNJ SDR, along with POCSAG on 29.8 MHz and 29.9 MHz

Land mobile comms:

U.S. LMR (Part 90) Business Radio Service allocations 29.7 MHz - 29.8 MHz.

29.710 MHz FM
29.730 MHz FM
29.750 MHz FM
29.770 MHz FM
29.790 MHz FM

Compared with the 27 MHz business frequencies, these are still in use by a handful of users, including simplex, repeater outputs and at least one fishing (Alaskan crab fishing company) user has a simplex base-mobile system on 29.77 MHz FM.

Non US LMR users:

Confirmed activity

29.855 MHz FM - Russian taxi cab dispatch, unknown location, YL dispatcher
29.905 MHz FM - Russian taxi cab dispatch, unknown location, YL dispatcher
29.955 MHz FM - Russian taxi cab dispatch, unknown location, YL dispatcher
29.965 MHz FM - Russian taxi cab dispatch, unknown location, YL dispatcher

Marine maritime mobile users - Chinese / Asian fishery radio 25 kHz / 12.5 kHz spacing - the full spectrum

29.700 MHz FM
29.7125 MHz FM
29.725 MHz FM
29.7375 MHz FM
29.750 MHz FM
29.7625 MHz FM
29.775 MHz FM
29.7875 MHz FM
29.800 MHz FM
29.8125 MHz FM
29.825 MHz FM
29.8375 MHz FM
29.850 MHz FM
29.8625 MHz FM
29.875 MHz FM
29.8875 MHz FM
29.900 MHz FM
29.9125 MHz FM
29.925 MHz FM
29.9375 MHz FM
29.950 MHz FM
29.9625 MHz FM
29.975 MHz FM
29.9875 MHz FM
30.000 MHz FM
and continuing up to 39.5 MHz

Confirmed use of 29.775 MHz, 29.800 MHz, 29.825 MHz, 29.850 MHz, 29.875 MHz, 29.9375 MHz, 29.950 MHz, 29.9625 MHz, 29.975 MHz and others.

The 12.5 kHz spacing frequencies appear to be "export mode" as the official Chinese regulated radios are 25 kHz spacing radios.  29.875MHz seems to be one of the most popular fishing boat frequencies in this spectrum.

Datalink, telemetry, wave rider buoys, OTHR:

Over the horizon radar systems are quite active on this band, 29.75 MHz, 29.8 MHz, 29.85 MHz, 29.9 MHz MHz, 29.95 MHz center frequencies.  Wave data radio buoys, which transmit narrowband FSK signals, use 5 kHz steps and are found from 29.705 MHz up to 29.995 MHz.

This spectrum is also used for short range low power devices SRDs and LPDs, i.e. garage door openers, short range remote wireless control links, and the like.

It is also assigned to remote control R/C RC model control purposes in
