87.9 FM unid station in El Cajon, CA
« on: November 24, 2013, 0402 UTC »
Been hearing an unid station playing techno on 87.9 FM
in El Cajon, CA.
After some investigating, found it is from a car wash!
Happy Cow Car Wash.
They have a laser light show when you run thru the wash
and they tell you to tune to 87.9 FM to hear the music.
It can be heard w/in a 1 mile radius of the car wash.
I plan to see if I can get them to verify. Bet it freaks them out!

That's funny! I'm guessing they're running a legal part 15 transmitter. Meaning they are running .1 watts. Ask them for a QSL;)

Here in Northern Indiana, for Christmas, one of the neighbors has a tremendous extravaganza... a "lightshow" of scenery, moving displays, "traveling LED's" strung all over the trees, etc.

When you pull up in front of the house, a sign directs you to tune in to the lower end of the FM band (forgot the freq), and you get serenaded with Christmas music while you watch.

100mW would not be part 15.  Into a standard dipole, part 15 (250uV/M) is around 10uW.  Part 15 on a good day gets out to about 100 feet, thats all.
