Ya know, it's things like this that I'm glad that I no longer work in broadcast television. C2C AM covered this subject last night, and there's various articles out there that talk about ATSC 3.0 coming. Well, here's one of them.  https://www.pcworld.com/article/2592581/atsc-3-0-another-year-stuck-in-neutral.html    One effect that is not mentioned is that the little-guy will be forced-out once again. One of the easiest, and affordable ways, to get into licensed broadcasting was LPTV. Many stations were on-air with old FCC certified, CATV gear. The big expenses were the antenna, the Heiliax cable, and paying for tower space. Even, cheaper than trying to start an LPFM station. ATSC 1.0 came and shut-out many analog LPTV stations, eventually. (Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, makes one wonder if that was part of the plan.) Well, I see that ATSC 3.0 will do that even further. Just my $0.02 worth here.
“I am often asked how radio works. Well, you see, wire telegraphy
is like a very long cat. You yank his tail in New York and he
meows in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? Now, radio is
exactly the same, except that there is no cat.”
-Attributed to Albert Einstein, but I ripped it from the latest Splatter .PDF March 2025 issue.
