Since you've asked, I'll try and give you a better idea. This has been an ongoing battle for years between several HAMs. Many are far more than "good 'ol boys" as described. If interested, you can start your search here for the main players. But if you Google 14.313, you'll come up with many pages. I'm not in any way affiliated with any of these groups, but I'm well aware of it. The battles also sometimes drop from 14.313 and end up on 7.200 and usually later in the night on 3.833 or more popularly on 3.843.

It's HAM radios version of All in the Family :P

Again, thanks for all the info. Just surprised when I came across it tuning around the different frequencies. Just kind of reminded me of the typical CB radio. :)

When DXing, I occasionally tune around the ham bands.  Sometimes you hear some darn interesting QSOs that way, especially during contests.  I've been warned to avoid the heck out of 14313 and 14275kHz, however.  Brother but those frequencies are awful!  CBers with ham tickets sounds about right.

I'm pretty sure I heard them QSY to 7200kHz once, one night about a year ago.  awful, awful stuff.  I admit I was half asleep with the radio in my ears at the time, but these were definitely rude, crude hams/CBers, not an SW station.  Nightmare fodder for me, and I do mean that!

Working on my ham ticket at the moment, and if I ever get a general or higher license, I'll be staying the frak off those specific frequencies to be sure.

I've sometimes wondered if the FCC tolerates the nonsense on 14313, with the hopes that it does not spread elsewhere.

It has been going on for many years and the FCC has commented on it several times. Some have even argued they let this go on (state side) with a similar tactic like laying out a rotting carcass. It attracts and keeps the buzzards & flies in one small area instead of spread out. The theories abound :)

I don't even bother listening to 14313 kHz. In fact, I avoid it. Been trying to work some DX on 40 CW tonight.  :)
