1051   Loud here in Halifax... S9+20db. That's a lot of energy to be 'a wastin' on an unmodulated carrier

Heard it earlier in the week. Figured it was the digital station had broke or they were keeping the freq occupied with no traffic.

Are we talking about the big carrier around 6946.6?  If so, I'm with skeezix and believe this might be related to the ute that was around this freq recently.  The carrier has been there a couple of days now.

I've heard this a few times over the past few days and it's on right now at 2247z. Coming in at S9 +40 into Maine.

There have been definite times that it wasn't transmitting or I couldn't hear it here.

I've been away from the radios for the last few nights, for the most part. So tonight is my first night seeing this thing. It is a BEAST that will hit S9+50. Going strong right now at 2301 UTC.

Hearing it now at 2312Z, ~ S7. Checked earlier today, probably when I saw this thread (1733Z) and I didn't hear it at the time.

What that means-
1. It wasn't on at 1733Z
2. It was on, but not in daytime range of here

Part of me hopes its #2, as this would be a good one to monitor from all over and see how propagation is. Obviously, that data would be more meaningful if we knew where this dead carrier is.

The carrier / tone on 6946.575 kHz is a resting leg of the 850 Hz S4481 FSK that has been on center freq of 6947 for a few weeks now.  When running the two data tones will be on 6946.575 and 6947.425 kHz.

Not sure if this is the 6950 carrier everyone is talking about or not.
