Weather fax.
« on: March 08, 2014, 2221 UTC »
I'm running a Yaesu vr 5000 with a D-303 antenna link via irig to Apple ipad, but the resulting weather faxs retrieved are just not up to any useable standard.

Does anyone else retrieve weather faxes via an ipad.

There's a few important tips for getting good quality faxes:
You need to have a good signal without interference
Make sure it is correctly tuned in (the right frequency) in USB mode
Check your audio levels into the iPad

Thanks for the reply, i'm using your software, and so far its going 50/50. talking about sound input levels, how high should the blue bar travel. It would be kool if you set up the next ipad version with say, red for when input is to high ?

I can get way better results down on LSB than USB, but the the faxes are in Black.. Possibly my issue come from using the D-303 as it a multi antenna, and maybe I would benefit from a more fixed SW antenna.

3 weeks before I move onto my boat (27 foot so not big), and start traveling. so I still have a bit of time to play.

If you listen in LSB, the audio spectrum will be inverted, that is why the faxes are black.

I would aim for the audio level being about 75% of full scale.
