New HiFER Beacon on the air 13563 kHz & QSL Contest!
« on: May 14, 2014, 0529 UTC »
Tonight I put up a HiFER Beacon (legal under Part 15 rules) centered on 13563 kHz.  First three audio recordings emailed to (beaconID)@gmail.com will get special QSL cards.  The only hint I'll give is that the beacon repeats a 6 character call sign at 9wpm.  Let the fun begin!

Benjamin

not hearing your beacon at this time but will keep listening for it,
GNK is booming in here at the moment, strongest I've ever heard it.

Thanks for the info.  I have a feeling it's not going to do too well to the east but we'll see...

13560 + and - several kHz is one of several industrial frequencies used for heating various materials in factories. There is a large industrial/commercial area in Elk Grove Village IL just west of O'Hare field that is about 5 to 6 miles south of me. 24/7 there are various rhythmic weak carriers coming from that area. Another freq is twice that at 27120 kHz which can mess up the CB radio band. There is, or was, a factory in Wheeling IL about 5 miles north of me that used that freq. I understand that there is also 6780 kHz (half 13560) but I never heard anything there. There might also be 40680 (13560 X 3).

I have been using online receivers because of strong data hash interference in my neighborhood that I believe is caused by Uverse squeezing up to 100mb/sec through ordinary pairs of wires. I don't have Uverse but neighbors do. williamhassig@yahoo.com

Sadly, no logs.  I'll have to see what I can do about the ERP. :)

void 13563 for contest beacon?
Because out west 13563 kHz is quite busy perhaps the fellow should choose a lower or higher freq. for his "contest" beacon (FFZ?) (so far that CB xtals can be pulled and pushed if in divide-by-2-mode, etc).

RR, VAN, Z2, ditters, and slow QRSS stations are in the 13562 to 13563 range in the Mojave Desert here.

Regarding the contest 22m beacon(s) these are NOT related to it but went on air shortly after Easter 2014:

two northern Inyo desert: 13562.89 "RR-dash" (inv-L)

(drifts) 13563.0 "VAN" in an old 1974 camper van with 1/4 wave end fed wire - 10-15 mW both.

Dunno who is running that contest, and where and why...

Sorry for the time it's taken to reply.  Between my last reply and now we have welcomed a new member of our family.

As for the beacon, it is a home brew beacon based off the programmable Epson oscillator.  The antenna situation is questionable and probably the reason no-one has heard it.  I'll see about upping the power...

I never heard the beacon. Although propagation has been the pits.

If someone made those hifer beacons, plug and play, would be nice, just think someone would here a string of those.
