1710 "CHIM-FM 92.7", nightly
« on: October 27, 2015, 0008 UTC »
Seems to be on continuous since i first logged it last month.  It has been strong at times during peaks, IDing at "CHIM-FM 92.7".  And now the kicker, they seem to be transmitting in FM mode.  Sounds horrible in AM, LSB and USB however on the signal peaks it actually sounds decent while listening in FM mode.  Strange...And nobody else is hearing this one?  I'd sure like to get a second opinion on the mode of operation being used here as FM seems like an odd choice for this frequency.

Nothing heard in Southern New York. I doubt I ever will though, I live under 10 miles away from the WRCR 1700 station, which obliterates that part of the band, usually ± 30 kHz with IBOC noise.

As nice a station as WRCR is, and though it is a favorite of mine because of the great variety of music that they play... I honestly think that broadcasting in standard AM mode is good enough, there's no need to broadcast digitally and ruin any Dxing opportunities for those frequencies.

I'll keep trying to hear that station though...
Florida, always listening via my Tecsun PL-660 receiver.

Could just be a bad power supply to the transmitter

I can see a few carriers about 1710, but at this time I am forced to use the Wellbrook loop and this is pretty pedestrian at this freq.  I have a resonant loop ready to go for MW pirates - you will be there this winter, I'm hoping - and as soon as I fix the coax run, I'd love to give this a try.

Maybe this?

1 watt on 92.7mc. Maybe they are somehow interfering with the AM broadcast band. 92.7/54 comes close to 1710kc. Maybe a faulty frequency generator in their TX.
I'm not saying aliens are in the radio, but aliens definitely are in the radio.

Their website - http://www.chimfm.com/index.html - lists "1710 AM" as the "on air" frequency.  Callsign is still "CHIM FM" as per the website...
