Pirate Radio Boston 6925 Khz USB 2120 UTC Dec 22, 2015
« on: December 22, 2015, 2120 UTC »
Booming in here at S9+ with the 2015 Holiday Special :), on suddenly with excellent audio. Opening ID by Charlie L, into "River"-Barry Manilow
(Now I've heard the part of the program I missed the other broadcasts :)...time to sit back, enjoy, and listen to the sounds of the season.... 8))

Joe Flips & R4002....you are correct! That was a typo! I was parked on 6925 when PRB came on and no fine tuning was necessary...audio sounds superb!

2159 UTC Darn...the band just went long very quickly here! >:(

2134 UTC: ID given  "You're listening to Pirate Radio Broadcast 2015 Holiday Special".  QSL info provided with email address.
2135 UTC: ID again, back into music.

Got them at around a S7 on the K2SDR WebSDR.  Thread title says they're in AM mode but the signal looks like USB (I don't see a carrier and only the upper side band)...and I'm only able to hear them in USB.  Are they transmitting a reduced sideband with a carrier or did they just switch from AM to USB at some point?

2137 UTC: More Xmas music, good audio with some noise.  Overall a great signal!
2138 UTC: "Merry Christmas boys" into advertisement for voice processor
2139 UTC: Back into "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time"

looks to me like USB with an inaudible HF tone being generated to create an AM carrier (can tell by the aliasing in the audio in FFT AM)
edit: just after i posted this, the inaudible carrier ceased, perhaps RF cyclic feedback caused it ?
edit2: i agree with R4002, most likely someone tuning up.

^That carrier has come and gone over the past 10 minutes or so.  I'm not hearing (or seeing) it anymore though.  Perhaps it was another station tuning up?

2149 UTC: "Run, Run Rudolph!" - great tune.  Heard what sounded like a sweeping VFO a few seconds ago.  Carrier is gone now (at least from the vicinity of 6925).

Pirate Radio Boston is definitely in USB though.  Could somebody change the thread title?   ;D

I tuned in to 6925 USB when the song 'Santa Claus is coming to town' was just ending and then 'So this is Christmas' was starting after the 'Pirate Radio Boston' ID. A few seconds in to the song, the signal was gone.
