WEFAX/FLDIGI decode problem 9/8/15
« on: September 08, 2015, 1449 UTC »
I'm having a decode error with WEFAX in
FLDIGI.

Image skews throughout decode, about 90% of the time. Attached is a small
image but you can see whats happening.

I don't want to just start changing settings, cuz I don't really know what I'm doing.

I have my suspicions of the cause, but I'm hoping that this is something that has been
seen before with an easy fix. I have always had good answers to my lame computer problems here on HFU.

I'm using,
-windows 8.1
-FLDIGI 3.22.05
-StarTech USB to stereo Audio External sound card, part # ICUSBAUDIOB

Thanks for ANY help

Hummm

Try shutting off the 'red' button to the right of the horizontal align slider...  just above the waterfall... then align manually with the slider that might help...

I had that problem when I upgraded to Windows7, seemed to be caused by the virtual audio card I was using to patch the SDR audio into my decoding software.
'VB-Cable' seems to do much better, although since Windows upgraded me to Windows10, my sound card timing seems to have changed.  I need to re-calibrate.
Not sure if they allow links from outside sites, but here is a link to the VB-Cable download:

Well, since my original post of this problem I have had no luck fixing this "Jitter".
I have been looking for a new external usb soundcard to try.

Recently I had to replace the RAM on my laptop. After that I reinstalled my soundcard
and the audio input level, gain I guess, into FLDIGI was very high. The Diamond shaped
indicator on bottom of screen showing the audio input level was Red, instead of green,
saying audio in is too high. I was unable to fix this and tried it anyway.

Wefax has decoded perfectly since, every time. I was getting some kind of interference
from my laptop occasionally, about every five minutes or so. I could hear on sound recordings,
and would last for a few seconds. Enough to skew my image decode. I think with all the extra gain
from sound card the interference is not heard by FLDIGI. Or the new RAM has solved the problem.

Either way it's working fine.
