5ABD CW beacon 27.212MHz.
« on: April 20, 2016, 0020 UTC »
Yesterday was tuning about the band and came across a brother to 5ABH on 27.878MHz CW, which has been on for a number of years now.

Picked up "5ABD" on 27.212MHz CW with same format as 5ABH, call sign three times then four minute key off, 559 report at 0240z.

Also on 27.212.25MHz CW out of phase with 5ABD was "DZ2" 539 report, same format as 5ABD, call three times then four minute key off.

5ABH & IR2 (27.003MHz CW) have been detected best at 180 degrees beam heading from Guam so they are located in Micronesia or just north of Papua New Guinea, large expanse of ocean.

Both 5ABH and IR2 have been on for a number of years so not drift net beacons which go off air when the trawler pulls them in, mystery surrounds where they are and what they are for and who operates them... ::)
