Marion's Attic WBCQ 7490AM 5/1/16 2100z
« on: May 01, 2016, 2108 UTC »

Excellent reception.
This is a gem of a show, a mainstay of WBCQ for many, many years.  Treat yourself if you have never listened.
2100z Christina & Marion discussing music, introducing songs from 20's & 30's
Tecsun H501x (broadcast received on this unless noted), Zenith T/O G500, Zenith T/O Royal 7000, Emerson AR-176, Zenith 8S154, T/O 7G605 (Bomber), Tecsun PL-600, Tecsun PL-880, Zenith 5S320, Realistic DX 160 using 40 feet of copper wire.  With apologies to Senator Gramm for his thoughts on firearms, "I have more radios than I need but not as many as I want."

WBCQ's TX definitely needs dire maintenance.
splattering up to 20Khz from the ITU operation specification of 5Khz AM for their TX.
is this indicative of a degraded audio modulator valve/tube or just simple over-driven modulation ?
(not to mention interference from another foreign SWBC station at 7495 Khz)
see waterfall screen shot.

You are right.  I have been picking them up on odd frequencies lately - forgot exact frequencies but one in the 6000's and one in 8000's, I was thinking some sort of harmonics.  You might want to send that shot to WBCQ.  Nonetheless, listening to the program on a 1936 Emerson AR-176 is a wonderful way to end the weekend.  I'm not hearing anything on 7495.

You might want to send that shot to WBCQ.
ive spoken to Allan a few times.
he is either lazy, stubborn or doesnt have the funds, nothing has really changed.
at least the TX is closer to frequency this time instead of the usual -100Hz from center, its only -15Hz this time, not that it really matters but most SWBC stations follow ITU specs, Allan isnt one of them  :P

2150z WBCQ signal completely dropped. I tuned to 7495, heard foreign broadcast - I'm thinking something from Algeria.  WBCQ returned at 2154z.
