I remeber how the vertical double-drum VFO of the QR reminded me of the later Radio Shack DX-200.

Was there an RX-200??
The next Kenwood model in line after the QR-666 was the R-300 which was almost the same rig except for a few small changes. The Radio Shack DX-200 also had a double barrel display but other parts of the front panel were quite a bit different.

Typo, but yeah, very different. The DX-200 was a rather basic single-conversion reciever, that IIRC, was supposed to replace the DX-160. Just noting the similar stacked vertical drum VFO layout. ;)
