1690 KHz  University of Irvine campus police dept, weak but clear
1640 KHz  City of Irvine disaster preparedness advisory radio, weak but clear

Irvine is roughly 13 miles from me and my SW antenna is definitely not good at these frequencies so I tried my old portable SW radio, a Uniden CR-2021. Wow! 1690 came in great. 1640 was a bit weaker but readable.

On 1690 they were stating that their radius of operation was meant to be two to three miles.
