After some diligent monitoring at various times over the past week or so I cannot hear anything, let alone a beacon on 4.073MHz CW.

Looks like it's a North American region thing as it's not in the western Pacific or SE Asia.  Band has been open as numerous Chinese M89 beacons plus Israeli defence etc in the 3-8MHz sectors.

Yes, it is definitely a North American thing. Also, these beacons are generally very low power (under a watt, many are 100 mW, some even less), and a tough catch for me on the East Coast. It would be impressive to receive them at your QTH.

Your best bet would be A on 2097 kHz, as it runs high power, by beacon standards anyway. It is the most reliable here.

Hearing GT barely making it out of the noise at 1325z.   About 10 mins later it came up, clearly audible for a few minutes then back into the noise.

I hear this one in the mornings sometimes, not sure if it's a 24/7 beacon or daytime only perhaps.  Glad something is there (at 4 MHz), as I don't tend to hear the 4096 beacons like I used to....

GT popped up out of the noise for a few minutes around 1056z this morning, 27 Apr 2017. A very good signal for the brief few minutes it was here.
