11m activity
« on: May 24, 2017, 1426 UTC »
Copying signals on most CB channels that I pause at, which is rare. Aside from the Super Bowl channel, where I know that I'm getting signals from several states away, it's hard to tell where transmissions are originating. I'm not really close to any truck routes, which is why I seldom hear much when I scan this band. (I don't have an external antenna for signals above 21 MHz, so I'm dependent upon the Sat 750's built in whip.)

So far, not hearing anything on 26.585, which seems to be Mexico's main calling channel and kind if their version of the Super Bowl.

So far 11m has been quiet here today, vs the past few days. Weird, as the Solar Flux is actually a tiny bit higher.

Actually now at 1642z I am hearing a little activity. Still slow compared to previous days.

I've found it really difficult to pull in 11m without a longwire or 11m antenna.  Most of my scanners on a discone are deaf to stuff I can pick up on the Afedri attached to a longwire or my CB attached to an 11m antenna.

You could always make an 11m dipole.  Even tacked up to the wall it should work better than the other antennas in my experience.

As far as ID'ing the location, I can only do that when they call out where they're from.  Otherwise, yeah, it's pretty difficult.  I heard one guy from CA talking with a really clean signal and a good mixer.  It was like "VHF FM clean" coming in.  Until he said where he was, I would have thought he was just down the road.
Pls qsl to rst111@protonmail.com ty!

Since it's summer up here in the USA it's winter for those in the southern hemisphere, so expect skip from south America and Australia way when it does roll in.
