Great log there Rob, especially from Scotland too.  Manila Radio, Singapore Radio and Tokyo Radio are all very strong here at night on 8MHz, another you could look at is 8.942MHz USB too with plenty of Asian aviation action, from the fore mentioned Asian countries.

You might like to try 8.918MHz USB Ambon Info, Indonesia, working inter-island flights and 8.885MHz USB Bali Radio (Denpasar) also in Indonesia working inter-island flights, both in English.

When the bands are really good I also tune to 6.661MHz USB for Mumbai Radio in India too.

Good luck... :D

Hi - Glad you liked the logs. I am familiar with many of the frequencies (years of experience!) I did try 8942 and heard something but in my location there are very strong HFDL tones on 8942 that make listening difficult. Once I make the wellbroook loop outside more permanent I'll try and do a bit of listening to the far east. Quite fancy trying some of the Indonesian domestic nets.
I actually have many logs going back to 1977 and I am currently transferring them to a log on my PC. It makes really interesting reading . I'll send you some if you are interested?

All the best

Propagation has been good one night lousy the next this way as recent solar activity has knocked the bands about.  I'll pass on the 1977 loggings thanks, tend to focus on the current.  I don't run a paper log any more nor a computer log for utility band DXing.

My two best for August was Santa Mario Radio in the Azores and New York Radio both on 8MHz with the latter a long path logging...listed below.  Took near 40 minutes for Santa Maria Radio to rise up to a readable level, worth the wait.

I chase M89 Chinese spy stations on CW plus aviation HF and NDB's on the low wave section and that is about it. On amateur radio I focus on 75m CW and 50MHz fone/CW.

Here is some interesting catches this way from August you might like to be on the alert for:

2.863MHz  USB  JIA New Tokyo Radio, Japan, with Volmet report. 1814z.

2.965MHz  USB  HSD Bangkok Volmet, Thailand, announcer with British accent. 1845z.

4.666MHz  USB  Tokyo Radio working various aircraft, very busy at the time. 5X9 report at 1155z.

5.673MHz  USB  Beijing Volmet, China, with long Volmet report. 1256z.
5.673MHz  USB  3UW33 Guangzhou Volmet, China with area reports. 1034z.

6.676MHz  USB  Singapore Volmet with major Asian airport reports. 1622z.
6.676MHz  USB  Kolkata Volmet, India, with reports. 1610z.
6.676MHz  USB  Karachi Volmet, Karachi, Pakistan with Volmet, echo on audio. 1552z.
6.693MHz  USB  UNNN Novosibirsk Volmet, Russia at 1314z.

8.819MHz  USB  Alta Volmet, Kazakhstan with reports, horrible modulation. 1546z.

8.825MHz  USB  Santa Maria Radio, Azores, working various aircraft, lovely audio. 19,471kms from here. 5X3 report.

8.867MHz  USB  Nadi Radio, Nadi, Fiji working flight Fiji-918, pos report & selcal check. 1001z.
8.867MHz  USB  Auckland Radio, New Zealand, working flight SingCargo 342, pos report & selcal check. 1111z.

8.888MHz  USB  Samara Volmet, Russia with report. 1651z.

8.942MHz  USB  New York Radio working "565" near Kingston, Jamaica WI (23,912kms LP), New York USA (23,955kms LP) just readable, aircraft 5X2 report. 2202z. (Long Path).

Interesting to note is that Honolulu Volmet, in Hawaii, has gone off air around two or so months back on HF bands, no one in this region has heard it, maybe a technology upgrade has seen the demise of their HF operations?

Good luck Rob, hope you get some distance records, Asia and the Pacific would be good for you, we take them for granted this way as they are always there... Jack VK2XQ :D

PS:  You might like to publish your data (equipment, antenna and grid square) at the bottom of your page, saves people asking...what do you run?  See mine for example at the bottom of each posting... ;)

Impressive station their Rob, real Big Gun DXer, I am after a JRC NRD-545 but very rare to see one secondhand in good condition for sale this way.

My best receiver blew a component in the receiver board over a year back, an old Yaesu FT-1000D that I purchased new.  Spare parts are an issue.  Top radio on low wave NDB band, miss it's excellent performance and sensitivity on that band.

6-11MHz opened up quite well last night, many Asia and Pacific Volmets around...Jack VK2XQ.

Hi Rob been going hf aero mobile for a few weeks  really enjoying it i do have problems at the moment with my hf wire dipole antennas at home so since my wellbrook ala1530 active loop is not being used decided to run it on a small sealed battery that can run for days and its working excellent to my suprise on a 2 metre pole shoved into another pole on the towbar at the rear of the car.

Regards Lino.
