NDB logs
« on: September 23, 2017, 1541 UTC »
Some mid-afternoon loggings from yesterday.   Heavy T-storm QRN but not bad results for daylight LW.  RX Tecsun PL-600 with homebrew loopstick hooked to a PAR EF-SWL antenna.

Sometimes these NDBs sadly just fade away.  We've lost 212 JX Jackson, 223 JZJ Detroit DTW, and 243 OZW Howell here in Michigan in the past year or so.
JZJ was the last beacon associated with Detroit Metro DTW...  IIRC at one time there were at least three.
Both beacons associated with Detroit City DET, 230 VQ and 338 DE are still operational although a recent NOTAM has the OM at DE permanently decommissioned.

Looks like VQ 230 may be history.  A new NOTAM for DET seems to say it is permanently out of service.  Will try to confirm this...

Had an opportunity this afternoon to do some daytime NDB chasing.  Band was very quiet, low K index = 1.  Heard all the beacons originally listed (except VQ) plus the following:

257  YXR   Earlton  ON  ?  (never copied the "R")
263  LQL   Willoughby  OH
332  QT    Thunder Bay  ON
335  LUK   Cincinnati  OH
341  ZLP   Toronto  ON
365  TV    Traverse City  MI
371  AZ    Kalamazoo  MI
372  MF    Mansfield  OH
385  UWL  New Castle  IN
388  CFJ   Crawfordsville  IN
388  H7    Manitoulin  ON
391  OO   Oshawa  ON
394  AI     Anderson  IN
403  ZTO  Toronto  ON
408  SN    St. Catharines  ON
410  BA    Columbus  IN
515  OS    Columbus  OH

230 VQ still missing,  still trying to reconcile a couple of confusing NOTAMs regarding this beacon.
Otherwise, a nice listening session with over 50 beacons heard in daylight.
