Lino:

8.282MHz USB Bali (Denpasar) Indonesia...are you sure of this one?  I have been tuning here and heard nothing despite band open to Indonesia.

My HF aero lists do not show 8.282MHz either, perhaps it is an "in house" frequency of one of the Indonesian airlines?

Is the traffic regular or sporadic, and at what times have you heard activity?

Thanks...LG

Lino:  You might like to try 8.918MHz USB for "Ambon Info" in Indonesia working various domestic flights within Indonesia, In English, very active here that one. :D

Since I do not know where you are Lino I cannot advise what you may be hearing on 8.918MHz as paths change with night/day propagation paths.

During my morning as the Grey Line passes through I get New York and various aircraft in the Caribbean region as well as Ambon Info on 8.918MHz.

You might like to add your details so they appear at the bottom of each of your postings, you can see mine for example at the bottom.

Makes it easier to work out a suitable reply when you have basic data (location & equipment)... ;)

Judging by your loggings (no times posted though), you may be in this region?  Good luck and have fun!  Jack.

Lovely set up there Lino, nice gear.  Higher bands are very noisy and quiet radio traffic wise up here, weak signals on 17.904MHz yesterday afternoon, 13.261MHz was more active.

I often chase the old former USSR Volmet stations too on 8MHz, also the currently active Russian ones.

Also chase the NDB's down on Low Wave also.  Keep up the good loggings, always good to see what other "locals" are hearing. :D

I am looking for a good receiver, my once old and trusty Yaesu FT-1000D which I have had since new had a receiver stage failure about a year ago.

Looking for JRC NRD-535 or 545 or maybe a suitable Icom, scarce in our part of the world, nothing but over priced junk at last Wyong Field Day flea market this year.

Looking for something good that goes below 200KHz too, logged the JJY time signal on 40 and 60KHz a couple of years back via the FT-1000D.

High bands are very poor here, 17MHz and 13MHz aviation are not travelling well, like you I only seem to get Brisbane Centre plus the odd Fijian flight across the Pacific.  Even the regulars on 8.828MHz Volmet are down too.

Sometimes the 10MHz aviation section shows some good distance, 4 to 8MHz are the better performers lately.

There is a function in your member account too that allows you to enter your location and equipment details that automatically publishes that info on each posting (like mine), saves you answering when people ask.

Do you know Norm VK7AC near Launceston?  Old associate of mine, also Joe VK7JG in some area.  Used to work a lot of VK7 on 50MHz over the years but band is shot due to decline in propagation.

What do you think of the Alinco DX R8T compared to the IC-R75, both in similar price range? Alinco only kicks off at 130KHz I think.

Enjoy...Jack VK2XQ.

Hi Jack did actually have the JRC NRD 545DSP also had the vhf/uhf converter wasnt happy with the performance with hf aero as for vhf/uhf it was excellent.i use the Alinco DX-R8T for mobile hf aero performance is excellent combined with my wellbrook active loop and the Icom R75 is an excellent hf receiver.

Lino, the higher HF bands are starting to pick up during the day so you might like to keep your eye on them for some loggings:

0302z  17.904MHz  USB  KZAK San Fransisco wkg Delta-?07, pos report/Selcal check. 4X2 report.
0746z  13.200MHz  USB  KZAK San Fransisco wkg United-870 enroute SYD-SFO, over Tuvalu, pos report and height adjustment. 5X5 report.
0106z  13.261MHz  USB  Brisbane Centre wkg Velocity-142 enroute SYD-AKL, south of Lord Howe, 5X5 report.
1001z   8.879MHz  USB   Brisbane Centre wkg Toll Freight-?? pos report & Selcal check. 5X6 report.
0927z   8.903MHz  USB  Manila Radio wkg Philippines-479 enroute Nagoya-Cebu, pos report and Selcal check. 5X7 report.

Still considering that new receiver...good DX. Jack. 8)

In addition to 8882 and 8918 there is also 8957 for western Indonesia, mainly co-ordinated by Medan Info.  Not much in the way of traffic in comparison to 8882 and 8918 though.

8882 is Bali Information & Kupang Information with most of the traffic being the former.
8918 is Ujung, Manado and Ambon.

Virtually all the traffic on both are Wings Air "Wings Abadi" ATR prop planes with a smattering of Garuda ATRs (& occasional CRJ-1000) and Trans Nusa props.  You can follow the Wings Air ones on Flightradar24 from that area, just look for the WON IDs.

Typical activity periods are 2200-0100z and 0600-0900z.  There will be activity throughout the daytime but they both completely fade out from the Australian and Philippine SDR sites I use.  There is a live feed for 8918 on liveatc.net by the way, fed from an SDR in Tagaytay, Philippines.

LG, if the jrc rigs are too dear or too scarce, you might consider the Icom pro series, their prices on the used market have fallen drastically as of late, mostly because of the stellar IC7300. I saw a pro2 go for $600 US on qth not too long ago.

They draw only about 2 amps on rx and have the lovely fish finder built in. They use the same 32bit dsp chip as the jrc 545 but different software of course. They also sport dual watch, you have two distinct dds, tunable as to freq, mode, and IF bandwidth if both freqs are within the pro's front end filter range, ie 2 to 6MHz, etc.

I love the 545, got to spend plenty of time with a friends on some very stout antennas, always a treat, preferred it over the tricked out 535 he had sitting right next to it.
