1410z Pre-game with two OM's (game time 1600z) discussing renovation of Gampel Pavilion and other UConn sports.
1613z Joe D - "Touchdown East Carolina, 9 play sixty five yard drive. Extra point is good, 7-0 Pirates"
1638z Joe D - "2nd and goal at 6. Scott runs straight up the middle, touchdown 20-6 East Carolina. The natives are restless here in East Hartford in the first quarter." "Last UConn Sunday home game was 1914"
Follow along this gets silly, if not stupid. A New York Yankee home date vs. Kansas City was rained out many weeks ago. The opening date they both had on their schedule was Mon. Sept. 25. However, the other Yankee Stadium tenants, NYCFC had a home match scheduled for Sat. Sept. 23. There would not be enough time to convert the infield (pull up sod) from soccer to baseball, NYCFC was sent packing. After searching the tri-state area, the nearest suitable soccer venue was determined to be Rentschler Field (over 120 miles away) in East Hartford, CT which has hosted national and international squads. It is also home to the
woeful dreadful UConn football team who were scheduled to be off. So, NYCFC rescheduled for East Hartford.
Along comes Hurricane Irma, University of South Florida Football wishes not to travel to Connecticut for the league game on Sept. 9 and it is cancelled. The American Athletic Conference and its member schools devise a way to make up the game with four schools changing their schedule in some manner. The East Carolina/UConn game is rescheduled for the weekend of Sat. Sept. 23 in East Hartford. Oops, the stadium is not available due to NYCFC soccer. Game moved to today (Sept. 24) at 1600 utc where it will be played in record warmth (upper 80's).
