DGPS Logs 17-18 Oct 2017 - Hawaii, yes... Hawaii!
« on: October 18, 2017, 2144 UTC »
The Alert Bay, BC decodes are random daytime junk. But... wow, Hawaii is real. I'm floored. I didn't think it was possible, but three solid decodes in a row. Probably when there was destructive skywave interference that knocked out Sandy Hook NJ. Which means that if Sandy Hook goes QRT or at least off the air for a day or two for maintenance, I have a chance for some extended reception.

Oh and Azores and Madeira as well with a nice showing. And Gatun Panama is back on the air. Looks like the janitor remembered to plug the transmitter back in this time after he finished vacuuming.

Pretty decent night. Would be kinda funny if Sandy Hook goes off the air then Hawaii turns into a regular.

Congrats, Chris!

The funny part is I saw the decodes on ADGPS shortly after replying to your posting about getting the NDB from HI on the Longwave forum.

I took a look at the waterfall, and you can indeed see where Sandy Hook [mostly] faded out for about 30 seconds.

Next step is to go back and reconfigure the PVC loop for resonant mode, and use it in real time for trying to null out particular stations.

Sandy Hook is 266 km from ye. Obviously you get groundwave and that can be nulled out, but how much skywave at night?

It may be a case where phasing is the way to go.

Definitely worth a try, as long as skywave doesn't show up.
