The rig to send the "Y" ident about 4096.53 kHz (via 4096-xtal) is a special A1A-CW / AM rig - pwr is about 1 watt CW and 200 mW carrier for AM modulation. Broadband circuit runs from 1 to 30 Mhz with a two-pie filter to cut above 30 MHz emissions. It runs most days from dusk to about 1000 PT, so the harmonic might be audioble daytimes.  Ant is 60 ft. end-fed wire up 15 ft. and goes to an MFJ-941C transmatch... MB

Thanks for the tech info!

I've only caught it a few times here in Orange County

4096.525 KHz  Very faint. "Y" beacon?

THANK YOU guys for your "Y" reports - I estimate the second harmonic of "Y" 8193.06 (or so) is about 15 dB below the fund, thus is about maybe 50 mW output! MarinDit is just a 2N2222 colpits osc. and 555 dit-timer IC to a too-short enamal-wire hidden in the parent's attic for the past 18-plus years...

.See if the THIRD harmonic of "Y" is audible.  I once while on a trip to northern SASKATCHEWAN heard strongly the THIRD harmonics of all three 4096 desert beacons before we (the three guys involved) put output tuning on them to cut this syndrome! Those were when Hexie/Coxie/Kelsie were the dominant trio, now mostly gone save for the daytimer Coxie still honking away after 17 years...

BTW, if a weak CARRIER is hrd. on the "Y" fund freq. rather than the stronger CW-mode ident (about 4096.53) it might be AM-modulated to about 90% mod. level max. - with rock/exotic music I play when taking desert walks outta here...

I will start to give your bcn. reports when possible, but need a few days advance notice of special tests/freqs. other than regular 24/7 bcns, cuz I don't log onto here everyday... - 73 - MB
