CFSL 1190 KHz 2220 UTC 11 Dec 2017

On my way home from work in the car, I was tuning around and found a somewhat strong station on 1190. Listened for a while and heard an ad for something in Saskatchewan. It was in from when I found it around 2220 UTC until it faded out around 2230 UTC. Was odd as have never heard this one before and 1190 here is usually a mess of weak stations without anything standing out.

Here on the Front Range, 1190 is the frequency used by the college station at CU-Boulder (KVCU), which at night operates on a whopping 110 W. I'm just far enough from the transmitter that CFSL can often be heard during quiet moments in KVCU's broadcasts, or in the background when the DJ's are talking. One night when they were playing something really ambient, I could hear CFSL's country pop very well, but it took a while to identify because all they would announce themselves as, was "Country 1190." They operate on 25 kW round the clock, I believe.

According to the FCC, CFSL is 10 kW non-directional daytime & 5000 W directional (to the north-northeast) at night.
