2008.35 Beacon
« on: February 03, 2018, 0315 UTC »
Copied the 22 dit/2.9 second between dits beacon on 2008.35 this evening with fading. Listening on Token's KiwiSDR. No sign of it on my local receivers in Phoenix.

02:01z - 10 or so dits, may have already started when I tuned in
02:10z - Copied 22 dits then faded out
02:15z - 10 - 15 dits copied fading in and out

Also earlier:

01:44z - 4102.83 - Wind/Temp beacon TMP 69 B120 good signal both local and on Token's KiwiSDR
01:47z - 2097.31 - The long running "A" beacon strong and solid both local and on the SDR

Ron,

The 2008.35 beacon is actually sent in strings of 33 dits, 2.9 seconds between dits, so just under 93 seconds total on time per cycle.  But as it is pretty weak it is very possible to miss some of the very short dits and end up with the wrong count.  I can generally definitely hear all 33 of them when the signal is relatively strong.

I find it is best just pre-dawn.

This morning it is running about 4 minutes and 42 seconds start to start.  So the following start and cycle times:
1402:14z   33 dits   last dit at 1403:46z
1406:56z   33 dits   last dit at 1408:28z
1411:38z   33 dits   last dit at 1413:11z
1416:20z   33 dits   last dit at 1417:53z

Thanks T!
Evidently my fat fingers hit the "2" twice instead of the "3" for the 33 dits. I caught your posting on it on the UDXF forum so went looking for it. I am sure I was missing some of the dits as it was fading up and down. This is a new one for me that I had never heard of after listening to these HF beacons for years. Nice to have a "new" one to look for and add to the log.
