Super Bowl channel, 27025, very active on May 02
« on: May 02, 2018, 1531 UTC »
Currently 1529 as I type this, but I've been on this frequency since 1450 or so. Channel 11 (27085) also busy today. I'm hoping there's going to be an opening to Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean as well, but no luck when I've checked the 26 MHz frequencies they favor.

OK and also above, for example Spanish on 27685 LSB.

Matt_B,

It's the name that receives CB channel 6 where a lot of folks transmit in AM mode with overmodulation and SUPER HIGH POWER in antenna.

Very active again today (May 4). Interesting, before I had an SDR plus an antenna that could copy this part of the band, I never knew that so many of these ops were off frequency, some by well over 1 kHz.

Seeing some 26 MHz activity too, at 26565. Not very strong but def. there. A bit stronger on 26585 but not by much.

26585 AM and nearby frequencies are heavily used by Mexican truckers and other stations running high power south of the border (I'm sure there's some north of the border as well).

26585 AM seems to be one of the main ones, but 26565 AM, 26575 AM and 26605 AM have also been logged by myself and others with Mexican-accented Spanish traffic (often with lots of reverb, sound effects, and music clips, especially on 26.585 MHz).  I know 26585 AM has been heard in Europe during more serious band openings.  Next time you hear activity on 26585 AM and nearby frequencies, check out 26555 LSB, which seems to be the "low band" version of 27555 USB for Spanish speaking operators.

26555 LSB and 26225 USB and nearby freqs are the exception to this but the Latin American 11 meter operators seem to follow the general gentleman's agreement for 11 meter freebanding that is: AM below CB channel 1, and SSB above CB channel 40.  Of course, when the band is really open, you'll hear truckers running AM mode all over the place.

U.S. East Coast, various HF/VHF/UHF radios/transceivers/scanners/receivers - land mobile system operator - focus on VHF/UHF and 11m

Yeah they also call it "the sandpile" or "dogpile"...I will excuse your ignorance if you will excuse my ignorance! Deal?

(I just heard a guy on ch06 say "this is cotton-pickin Stonewall Jackson!")

HAHA I seriously love the CB. It pisses off the licensed HAMs! And remember: with "CB radio"...the 'C' stands for "idiot"! (←that's me!)

The big AM in-band channels are as follows:

Channel 6 - 27025 - The Super Bowl - the big one, some of these guys are splattering so much junk it gets all over the band
Channel 11 - 27085 - the original calling channel from the 23 channel CB days
Channel 15 - 27135 - seems to be the alternate to channel 11 in some areas
Channel 26 - 27265 - Often very busy in the southern USA
Channel 28 - 27285 - Similar to ch 26 / 27.265 MHz - lots of high power stations heard here during band openings

If all these channels are busy, check the English language low band calling channel, 26915 AM, and nearby frequencies, namely 26905, 26885, 26835, 26815 and 26775 seem to be the most popular ones.  I've heard stations in Texas talking to each other on 26955 several times, some of them with broadcast studio quality audio...

Another one worth mentioning is channel 9, 27065 AM.  It is used as a high-power calling frequency for Spanish speaking operators.  When you hear Spanish language chatter on 27065, check the out-of-band calling frequencies for activity coming out of Latin America, including the following:

26555 LSB - Spanish language, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico - low band SSB calling freq
26565 AM - Spanish language, Mexico
26585 AM - Mexican truckers calling frequency
26705 AM - Puerto Rico calling frequency (I've heard Miami, FL working stations in PR here before)
26715 AM - Puerto Rico calling frequency (alternate to 26.705 MHz)
26725 AM - alternate to 26.705 MHz and 26.715 MHz

27455 USB - high band SSB calling freq (note that 26555 is channel 4 down one band, 27455 is channel 4 up one band)
27665 to 27705 USB/LSB in 5 kHz steps, generally centered around 27665 USB and 27695 USB, lots of Spanish activity
U.S. East Coast, various HF/VHF/UHF radios/transceivers/scanners/receivers - land mobile system operator - focus on VHF/UHF and 11m
