WX4NHC Saturday, May 26, from 1300 until 2100 UTC
« on: May 16, 2018, 2033 UTC »
WX4NHC - http://wx4nhc.org - the Amateur Radio station at the
National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami, will be on the air for the
annual station test on Saturday, May 26, from 1300 until 2100 UTC.
This will be the station's 38th year of public service at the NHC.

The purpose of the annual event is to test Amateur Radio station
equipment, antennas, and computers in advance of the Atlantic
Hurricane season that runs from June 1 through November 30.

"This event is good practice for ham radio operators worldwide as
well as for National Weather Service (NWS) staff to become familiar
with the Amateur Radio communications available during times of
severe weather," said WX4NHC Assistant Coordinator Julio Ripoll,
WD4R.

"We will be making brief contacts on many frequencies and modes,
exchanging signal reports and basic weather data exchange (sunny,
rain, etc.) with any station in any location." WX4NHC will be on the
air on HF, VHF, UHF, 2- and 30-meter APRS and WinLink.  The subject
line must contain "//WL2K."

The Hurricane Watch Net frequency of 14.325 MHz will be primary for
WX4NHC. Operation also will take place on the VoIP Hurricane Net
from 2000 to 2100 UTC on IRLP node 9219 and EchoLink WX-TALK
Conference node 7203. Florida Statewide SARNET and local VHF and UHF
repeaters will be contacted.

QSLs are available via WD4R, with an S.A.S.E.

Thanks for putting this one up, Alfonse. If you live in or on the fringes of hurricane country, these nets are a primary source of info before, during, and after the event.

I live out of the direct storm impact zone, but these things dump a tremendous amount of rain up in the mountains where I reside, especially when they stall.

I can picture pigmeat running around the neighborhood naked in the hurricane rains as his repressed hillbilly upbringing breaks loose.

Repressed? I'm a Hillbilly Potentate, Sonny-Boy, and don't you forget it! I bathe in the creek!

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a couple of lost Yankees I'm fleecing. A fella once suggested a few decades back the state motto should be, "Leave Your Wallets And Get The Hell Out". He was far ahead of his time, the great ones usually are.

Whoops! I just sold "Hitler's Canoe" again. Time to slap swastikas on a couple more of those old aluminum Grumman's in the back for vacationing suckers. Aluminum canoes are in short supply these days, but slow Yankees never are. Time to invest in fiberglass ones. Secret Nazi invention tales always move product with Yankees, they'll buy one for fiberglass.

Snappin' turtles are the real danger around snags in the deep holes. Crawdads and leeches are akin to skeeters, pesky but they can't really hurt you. Plus, you can sell 'em as bait after you remove them.

Rattlesnakes and copperheads can be problems on certain sections of the bank, but if you call the preacher of that strange little church at the end of the road, he's happy to come get 'em for free. He's always looking for new members. How's your strychnine tolerance?

I developed epilepsy in middle age, I had to give up my beloved beer. As for the green, it really helps with the muscle damage and spasms the seizure damage has done, but I'm snoozing after a few tokes. Even the CBD oil puts me to sleep. I think it's all due to creeping old fartedness.

Maybe try some of that weed with "just a little bit of coke sprinkled in" like they talked about on SNL a while back.
