Michigan NDB logs
« on: July 15, 2018, 1708 UTC »
All Michigan all the time.
Heard the following beacons this morning just before sunrise:

278  ADG   Adrian
332  PH     Port Huron
338  DE     Detroit
336  MA     Cadillac  (miskeys as MET)
359  GYG   Grayling
365  TV     Traverse City
382  IRS    Sturgis
382  SJX    Beaver Island  (never got the full ID on this one, mixing with IRS and XU London ON on same freq)
400  CI      Sault Ste. Marie

not heard:  257  MB  Saginaw Tri-City ???
269  FN  Flint Bishop (was decommissioned in May this year)

Just want to get these logged while they are still on the air...  we've lost at least 5 in the past several years.
Anybody else with Michigan logs feel free to post 'em here.

SJX is a common daytimer here being only 480 km away and propagating mainly right down the lake.  I am noting it today at 1411 with a good signal.  SJX traditionally has a weak LSB and that is indeed the case today.

SJX is an infrequent visitor here.

I acquired these MI logs while antenna testing last week

2018-07-06  1439  254.0  MB   Manistee, MI, USA  319 Km
2018-07-06  1442  257.0  MB   Saginaw, MI, USA  367 Km
2018-07-06  2212  263.0  GR   Grand Rapids, MI, USA  253 Km
2018-07-06  1558  344.0  ES    Escanaba, MI, USA  446 Km

Have not heard 257  MB  Saginaw all week.  Propagation has been mostly wall to wall static lately but in the past it has had good sigs in here day and night regardless.

btw...  interesting Manistee and Saginaw same identifier only 3 kc and less than 150 mi apart

Been hearing 257 MB Saginaw again the past couple of days.
If it was out of service, it got a new lease on life.

Have not heard  332 PH Port Huron all week.
This has been an off again, on again beacon...  stay tuned.
Meanwhile, FIS Key West has been holding down the freq
with QT Thunder Bay ON and YFM LaGrande 4 QC competing
for the 400 cycle offset.

Oh cool I don't listen TOO much to the NDBs...but they help me learn Morse. And I didn't realize MI has so many...I guess with all the Canadian NDBs I just didn't think about it! Thanx for the log!

Incidentally, I'm hearing DULUTH beacon DL on 379 KHz right now...(obviously not Michigan!)

What is the 'AA' beacon I just heard on 364 KHz? 11:23z ...it seems to have stopped now. Am i just not copying it? Or is this like an American Airlines thing...?

NDB AA on 365 is associated with the Fargo ND airport but the beacon itself is located off of the field and is actually in Minnesota.
btw... this was the destination airport of "The Day the Music Died" flight

Try 410 SO Marquette... had a good signal in here this morning before dawn, you may even be able to hear it during daytime at your location.
