Gloucester Fishermen 6095 USB 2005 UTC 30 Jul 2018
« on: July 30, 2018, 2049 UTC »
I accidentally ran across these guys while looking for CFRX 6070. I have not heard them in a while... now I know where they are hanging out!

2005 OM came on with "I just got came up with a great idea!".  Other OM replied with a string of obscenities, and the first guy replied with some more. Sounds like they are having some plumbing issues, mentions of pipes and water. ;D

So they moved from the 6900-7000 kHz region down to the 6000-6300 kHz region?  Interesting.  Of course, going from, say, 6905 kHz to 6095 kHz isn't too much of a stretch :D

If they're hanging out in the 49 meter broadcasting band on 6095 kHz wouldn't that put them in "partial-peskie" status?  6212 kHz is actually a legal ITU marine channel IIRC.

Yes, it is.  6212 kHz is ITU channel 605 (ship transmit in duplex mode) or just 605 simplex ship-to-ship.  Sounds like they've got the regular marine channels programmed in their radios in addition to out-of-band frequencies.

Of the HF marine bands, the 6200 to 6525 kHz (6 MHz marine band) seems to be the busiest one, at least in my monitoring experience.  I've monitored significant traffic on and near 6212 kHz in the past.

I just caught the tail end of them on 6212 USB again. I am not sure if these are the same guys on 6095, they all sound the same to me  ;D

6212 active again at 1928z. F this and F that.

Have they moved frequencies again?  Several hundred "channels" to choose from ;)

Another thing to consider is how far are these guys from each other?  Are they operating on the 6 MHz frequencies for skywave?  Or are they just too far away from each other for VHF-FM marine band communications (or private business band communications - I remember reading about Canadian trawlers operating in the 30-31 MHz region using voice inversion to prevent other fishing fleets from listening to them) and/or they want a "private channel" but are actually communicating using groundwave?

I have not heard them recently, but I also have not tried. Looking at the band now, but not seeing anything. It's pretty hit or miss whether or not they turn up.

I heard them a couple of nights ago on 6993, relatively clean conversation for New England fishermen.

I bet there's several different groups of these guys, that or they're changing frequencies often...
