Mysterious radio signal sent from an unknown source in deep space is picked up by new $18million telescope in Canada

Mysterious signal sent from an unknown source in deep space and picked up by a new £12 million telescope in Canada is one of 'only two dozen' radio bursts ever detected The CHIME telescope picked up a low frequency fast radio burst (FRB) It lasted for only a few milliseconds and was detected by the sensitive machinery It has been named FRB 180725A and is the first wave to be found below 700MHz The scientists have yet to discover the source of the radio signal, but theories suggest it could originate from a black hole or advanced alien civilisation

There is a link to the release here: http://www.astronomerstelegram.org/?read=11901%20
And a plot here http://chime-experiment.ca/figures/chimefrb_1st_event.pdf

Looks like roughly 575-725 MHz, and a fairly wide transmission.  Seems much more likely to be natural vs aliens.  And if they were aliens, they probably won't even QSL.

Precluding any terrestrial radio frequency interference, from the RA, Dec given, its in the direction of the constellation Camelopardalis about mid-way between the Big Dipper [UMa] and Cassiopeia in the sky.

Josh, were you around when Al Weiner was beaming WBCQ programming into space trying to send out signals to other civilizations? Pete Peters and Brother Stair scared them off.
