EIP VOLMET 13264 USB 1950 UTC 15 OCT 2018
« on: October 16, 2018, 0555 UTC »
I've been trying on and off for a couple months to hear this VOLMET from Ireland, and with unusually good reception of European stations during local daytime today, I tried again.

And, lo and behold, at 1950-1956 UTC and again 2001-2005 UTC, I heard the synth voice reporting weather conditions, albeit with some SSB distortion and not easily copiable. The audio faded in and out periodically, and there was some sort of static crashes at times as well.

I also heard, at 1958 UTC, a barely audible synth voice on 11253 kHz in USB mode, where the RAF's MKL VOLMET broadcasts. A whistle/whine noise started interference with that frequency after about two minutes, though.

I know these two are frequent catches for East Coast listeners, but it's a bit tougher here on the West Coast to hear these.

Volmet and hfdl from the UK/Eurozone is heard here often in the eastern Midwest, but little from Asia or places frequently heard on the left coast. San Fran hfdl and Hawaii is heard at times, mostly San Fran, it's like any rf from left of the rockies is censored by the idunnosphere or those damn mountains. Will have to try a vertical rather than this horizontal contraption and see if that helps out for the Asiatics.

I've heard San Francisco Radio on 8843 kHz a few times from here. I've also gotten New York Radio on 6586 kHz when conditions are right.

As for other VOLMETS, CHR out of Trenton, Ontario, is a daily log here on 15034 kHz. VFG in Gander is a bit more of a stretch, but I often can hear it in the afternoon on 15034 or 10051 kHz.

I've yet to hear others in the Asia-Pacific region, but I'm still working with just a makeshift longwire antenna for now.
