Happy to get YEU which is just 400 km shy of the Holy Grail of NDBs for NA DXers, LT 305 in Alert NU.  Happy also to log GH 314 which is GRL #12 for the season, and now all known currently active GRL have been logged here this season.  Hopefully we will be able to push the envelope out to Iceland, but only the Right Coast guys are hearing those.

Sunspots?  We don't need no stinkin' sunspots!

FB on "Worked All Greenland".   :)

My first long haul DX on LW was in GRL (391 MA) which got me hooked on this NDB thing.
Only have heard one other GRL since... 382 SF.

Well done with 359KHz NA and 314KHz GH for the 3,500kms mark to Greenland.  You have some good loggings there but sadly things are going backwards down this way in Australia.  Battling to get over 2,000 last three weeks.

Sep/Oct/Nov were our best openings this way being Winter & Spring seasonal wise. Keep up the good work, maybe you will reach across to Iceland... 8)

If you logged MA 391 and SF 382, you should have no problems with SI 279, KU 298, and UP 399, all of which are coming up with fair to strong signals lately in the 2300 to 0100 time slot.  At times, these can be heard all night until local SR.  Problem is, right now conditions are crap, but hopefully will be better soon.  Beware that the UP USB is at +324.

pv;

The floor varies here with time and freq, but generally falls between -95 and -115 dBm.

The SA logs come from deep searches in overnite SDR recordings.  Knowing what the DST is doing gives major clues as to what to look for.  I constantly refer to:   https://www.hfunderground.com/propagation/

It is absolutely astounding how these weak ones pop up out of the noise for a few ID cycles, only to quickly disappear.  Forensic DXing is tedious and mind-numbing work, but it is amazing how your DX blood will boil as you find that point in the recording at which a piece of visible lint or fuzz in the waterfall begins to resolve into an ID.  I think it is also imperative to have fresh offsets for your search targets to aid in pulling things out of a pile up.

jf,

Tnx for the link,  good stuff.  Your noise floor about as bad as mine.
Have seen it drop as low as -125 dbm late night, early morning but that is unusual.

Some sigs will suddenly fade in and then just as quickly disappear so it pays to copy the ID right out of the box.
IDK,  maybe D-layer refraction ???
What do you think ?

Just don't know for sure, and I don't know of any NDB DXers who know what goes on up there with certainty.

When it comes to longwave propagation, many radio textbooks talk about ground wave and leave it pretty much at that.
Granted, LW sigs can travel a long way over water but that doesn't explain much of the other LW propagation.
There are various LW propagation studies out there but they seem to rely on computer models rather than empirical data.
Most of the interest and action is on the higher frequencies.  LW truly is the basement.
