Great Morning For DXing!
« on: November 03, 2018, 0001 UTC »
I'm not quite sure where to put this one, so I'm putting it here.

This morning (11/2) was a pretty epic one for AM Dxing.  At about 3:58 AM eastern time, I picked up what appears to be CKNX (Wingham, ON) on 920 khz.  I only pulled them in for a moment, but they were playing Gordon Lightfoot's "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald".  Also, I was able to quite clearly hear CHML (Hamilton, ON), which was notably a bit off frequency.  They were airing "The Shift with Drax" from about 3 to 5 AM.  Reception was fair to strong, but competing against WCBS-AM.  I'm in Stratford, CT.....heck of a catch, me thinks! :)

Nice to hear that other people still enjoy a bit of AM DXing. I have fond memories from my childhood of picking up stations at night from areas that I normally would never hear. It always felt like something magical and led to me wanting to learn more about the how and why of that. Thanks for sharing this.

Yeah....I still get into AM DXing from time to time.  My best American catch on AM is WJR (from Detroit)….a couple of years ago, I pulled it in from Bridgeport CT on a cold winter night.  Once, I even pulled in WSM-AM (Nashville) while trying to receive WFAN on 660....WSM is 650, so it was a bit off frequency.....from Fairfield, CT, around 806 miles away.  Cool stuff.  :)

Matt -

I am just a little northeast of you, I manage to pull in three separate Chicago stations on 670 am, 720 am, and 1000 am.  670 am has been getting overwhelmed by a Spanish station from Miami.  CKLW 800 am from Windsor, Ont is an easy get here.
Tecsun H501x (broadcast received on this unless noted), Zenith T/O G500, Zenith T/O Royal 7000, Emerson AR-176, Zenith 8S154, T/O 7G605 (Bomber), Tecsun PL-600, Tecsun PL-880, Zenith 5S320, Realistic DX 160 using 40 feet of copper wire.  With apologies to Senator Gramm for his thoughts on firearms, "I have more radios than I need but not as many as I want."
QTH:  Durham, Connecticut (rural setting, 15 miles north of Long Island Sound)
qsl please to:  jamcanner@comcast.net  (Thank you)

That usually comes in quite strong here as well.
