WSB 750 AM 0700 UTC 16 Jan 2019
« on: January 16, 2019, 1716 UTC »
Must be optimal conditions for DXing tonight....I caught WSB-AM out of Atlanta into my location in Stratford, CT.  For those curious, Stratford is about 933 miles away from Atlanta, and is a new distance record for me.  The previous record was Detroit's WJR, from about 668 miles away.

Anyway, I heard WSB's top of the hour ID at about 2 AM eastern (0700 UTC).  This was followed by news, and "Red Eye Radio".  Reception of the station was quite good, dare I say excellent, from this distance.  :)

Some sources claim that WJR is running IBOC, however, it presently is not.
In fact, WSB usually has a fairly good signal in here at night.
If WJR were running IBOC there would be no way WSB would be heard here
at my QTH in Michigan.

Anyway, try for 650 WSM Nashville TN.  That is about the same distance from you as WSB.
If you are hearing WSB you should probably also be able to hear WSM.

If you want to try for a new distance record try for WNMA 1210 am Miami, it is the Spanish station underneath WPHT (Philadelphia), sometimes overwhelming WPHT.  This is my distance record in central Connecticut. I oft times switch off of listening to WPHT in the evening (after 0000 utc) because WNMA is so markedly received.  I'm thinking that's over 1100 miles.

While living in the northern suburbs of NYC decades ago (which you are closer), I would regularly receive WWL 870 am New Orleans and WCCO 830 am Minneapolis.  You might give a try to them, I have never received them in Connecticut.  They would be about 1200 and 1000 miles away, respectively.
Tecsun H501x (broadcast received on this unless noted), Zenith T/O G500, Zenith T/O Royal 7000, Emerson AR-176, Zenith 8S154, T/O 7G605 (Bomber), Tecsun PL-600, Tecsun PL-880, Zenith 5S320, Realistic DX 160 using 40 feet of copper wire.  With apologies to Senator Gramm for his thoughts on firearms, "I have more radios than I need but not as many as I want."

50 KW WWL New Orleans is the boss on 870 at night.
However, from Connecticut you may have to null out WHCU
in Ithaca NY also on 870 which runs 1 KW at night.
You will need a good selective RX because WWL has a couple of 50 KW
adjacent channel neighbors both of which are much nearer to CT.
On 860 there is CJBC in Toronto and WCBS NY occupies 880.
One little glitch...  WCBS is reportedly running IBOC.
If it is, you can pretty much forget about hearing the New Orleans station.
