Phone patches

Does anyone every hear Phone patches on HF anymore? I remember hearing some about 15 years ago, but I've been away from SWL for a bit. If so what frequencies are typically used? Thanks

The last one I head was a guy on an oil rig in that time period talking to his girlfriend on and off for roughly a three week period. Problem was his wife was listening in, too. Darn those cheap sw portables!

That was about the same time period you're talking about. They were in the 6280-6290 range.

They seem to still be active in Latin America, I've heard them in the 6600-6900 kHz range and other places, mixed in with freebanders/outbanders.  6790 kHz and other 67xx frequencies seem to the most popular.  I've heard several QSOs (in Spanish) that sounded like a husband talking to his wife about domestic matters, have even heard the children talking to the husband in the same QSO.  Hard to say if they're "true" phone patches or jury-rigged deals (somebody holding the mic up to a landline telephone somewhere, etc).
U.S. East Coast, various HF/VHF/UHF radios/transceivers/scanners/receivers - land mobile system operator - focus on VHF/UHF and 11m

Thanks for your replies. The last time I heard one it was between a man and his assumed spouse. Just standard domestic conversation kids, health, bills etc.

The guys on the rig let the girlfriend know about it later when she kept calling for him.

I wonder if the guys on the rig were angling for phone patch sex and the girlfriend wouldn't play?

I couldn't believe the two of them were so open about it while it was going on? You had to be able to hear them from Greenland to Guyana.
