This is Kevin Bess, your Northern Florida Section Manager. With the
COVID-19 (Coronavirus) going around, I have asked our Section Emergency
Coordinator, Karl Martin, K4HBN, to say a few words.

Good day to everyone,

I hope this message finds you in good health. First, I would like to
thank Kevin Bess KK4BFN, the Northern Florida Section Manager, for
allowing me to send you this update.

As you are well aware, COVID-19 (Coronavirus) has canceled many
gatherings in the section. The latest is the Fort Walton Beach Hamfest
on March 20th. Ben Henley KI4IGX, the SEC Section Emergency Coordinator
for West Central Florida and myself, planned to hold a Florida ARES
public forum where we could cover many topics regarding Florida ARES and
take questions on the new Florida Task Book. The Hamfest is canceled, a
new date and time for the Florida ARES forum are TBD. We apologize for
any inconvenience. Taking precautions is a prudent move and is safer
than risking spreading COVID-19.

The three Section SEC's have been monitoring the situation, and we have
been in contact with the Florida Department of Emergency Management.
Although, the virus has not affected regular communications, we need to
be prepared to respond if called on to assist in essential communication
services. EC’s are keenly aware of the possible requirements. Please
contact the EC Emergency Coordinator for your county. Depending on the
served agency, your local EC may request your support.

I encourage you and your members to follow the CDC, health department
and other reputable sources. I am hopeful that this incident with
rapidly coming to an end, but we need to be vigilant as this could
remain an issue for some time.

From Kevin and myself, we thank you for your volunteer service and hard
work you put towards your community.

If you need the contact information for your local EC, or have any
questions or comments, feel free to contact me at any time.

Of course. Where do you think the SWINE FLU came from but HAMS?
I don't STRETCH the truth.
