Any difference, PL660, PL680?
« on: August 03, 2022, 2245 UTC »
I use my older desktops and older portables like my DX440 most of the time.

My travel radio, a PL-660 has given up the ghost, so I would like to replace it.
My first choice was a PL-880, but I do not like the battery/USB connection.

Just wondering if anyone has some insight between the 660 and 680.

Thanks!

Well I received the PL-680, not very impressed.

First, the case does not have the feel nor the modern look of the 660. But I can live with that.

The frequency readout on SW is off by 5khz, 4.5 to be fair. Haven't check the other bands yet.
Really? Isn't this why we buy digital displays?
My 30+ year old cheap radios are still displaying fine. (My 660 and Eton version were also OK)

Ah the good, many 660s had lose tuning knobs, actually the encoder was the fault, this one has a nice smooth feeling to it.
Maybe it has a slightly smaller orifice in the case.

The unit is also very sensitive and selective :)
So I will try to recalibrate the frequency readout.

PS; Of course, my favourite band LW is full of birdies but I expected that, I use my old Zenith out in the cornfield for LW.

Thanks for reading my rambling lol
