300 watts from Canada's newest Province! Usually wiped out by all the flamethrowers.

Nunavut's not a province, it is a territory. Still, to talk about Newfoundland as the newst province is a bit odd since it goes back to 1949. It would be like talking about the Bablyonian's "latest" invention, the wheel.

More seriously though, why is that channel such a hard catch? Are they underpowered? Is it intended only to serve Labrador, perhaps?

I think they're only like 300-watts, and the radiation pattern probably is towards that area.  But I have heard it on quite a number of occasions, along w/the BC one on the same freq., but then I lived basically near the top of a mountain for over 8 years, and had about a 150-ft. longwire dipole antenna and tuners/pre-amps, so that certainly didn't hurt!
I did try before sunrise this morning, and even just using ameco TPA as an indoor antenna, I was hearing some news in English.  Also got a very nice QSL-package from them from years back, and have QSL'd all the other old Canadian SW stations (6005, 6030, 6070, 6130, etc.).  I guess only 6070 and the 2 on 6160 are the only 2 left. :'(

Hi Alex,

I think CFVP 6030 kHz, relay of CKMX 1060 kHz - Calgary, Alberta is still on the air. I should try for it some morning.

I wish I had QSLed the others that went QRT.

I listen to CKZU Vancouver (also on 6160) regularly. It helps to live within 150 miles of its 500 W transmitter.

Morning, Chris, you know, I think you're right.  Last year they were still on, I'd forgot.  I think C & W music was the format.

I also forgot the one from Vancouver on 6080, I think it was something like CKWX.  Only 10-watts from BC to the ECNA!

CFRX, I believe it was. Has been off the air for at least a decade, I think. I would also hear that one regularly from Seattle.

That should be 6070, as I believe it's CFRB-1010 they relay, if I remember correctly, but I am still on my first cuppa coffee. ;)

Yep, that's them. They are back on the air after having been off for quite a while due to transmitter problems.
