Adios amigos, ESPN to shutter Desportes radio network
« on: June 11, 2019, 2055 UTC »
Desportes will shut down in September.  Perhaps their largest affiliate is WEPN 1050am in New York, a 50,000 watt class B station - the original home of WFAN.  The current flagship of the NY Yankee Spanish radio network.

Nooo! Their programming is the best! Their female talent looks like a bunch of ex-beauty queens who know to dress to make the curves pop out in front of the blue and green screens.

Plus, I once saw a Zebu bull get on the field in a key futbol game in Managua on Desportes. The stadium officials let the boys in the crowd do their best to run it off the pitch. It was a great 20 minutes of sports history.

I used to love DXing Deportes stations. There weren't a ton of them, so when you heard that jingle with the dive-bombed electric guitar, you knew you had a Deportes station. That's how I ID'ed KSVE El Paso back in 2014 or whenever, before MW condx went into the toilet.

RIP Deportes.
An AM radio Boombox DXer.
+ GE SRIII, PR-D5 & TRF on MW.
The usual Realistic culprits on SW (and a Panasonic).
