« on: June 12, 2019, 1452 UTC »
This is becoming almost a daily thing now - another North American 11-meter opening this afternoon (east coast time).  Noted activity on 26.105 MHz, 26.685 MHz, 26.905 MHz, 26.915 MHz (all AM), basically every one of the legal 40 CB channels too...and several above CB band frequencies including 27.415 MHz LSB, 27.430 MHz LSB, 27.445 MHz LSB, 27.465 MHz LSB, 27.525 MHz LSB, 27.665 MHz AM (hearing some weak SSB underneath the AM chatter), 27.725 MHz AM and others...

The Southern states are active again, 26.915,27.025 27.085, 27.165, 27.265 are booming in. Dynamite, Ebony King, Lance Diamond, Johnnie Cochran and Thunderbolt are all big signals into WNY.
Location: Western New York ( Niagara Frontier)
Radio :TS480 with RTL-SDR pan-adapter, HDSDR software, Omni-Rig Control, Zenith T/O R600,T600
Antenna: 40m dipole, 20-17-15 meter fan dipole. One of N. Tesla's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production.

The band seems to have quieted down a bit at 1700 UTC.  Hearing half of a QSO on 26.935 MHz AM, with sporadic activity on 26.915 MHz and the other usual low channel frequencies.  Activity within the legal 40 CB channels seems to have died down a bit too (for now anyway).

Hearing an oddity, somebody using SSB on the lower channels,

26.835 MHz LSB two OMs chatting away about Venus Fly Traps.  Several of the in-band frequencies are very busy (the usual suspects on 27.025 MHz, 27.085 MHz, etc. are busy)

A bit late with the post, but I heard the Mexican trucker's channel on 26585 (or 26.585 if you prefer) quite well for the first time in a long time on Wednesday morning around 9:00-10:00 MDT (1500-1600 UTC). One guy was playing the iconic music from "The Good the Bad and the Ugly" from time to time. No such luck today, unfortunately.

I haven't heard the 26.585 MHz crowd like that in a while (complete with the noise toys, music, sound effects, echo chambers, etc.).  When 26.585 MHz AM is busy, check 26.555 LSB (and nearby frequencies).  I believe some of the guys on 26.585 and 26.595 are in the same area as the crowd that hangs out on 26.555 LSB.

I have to play back the recording I made, as I had seen other channels were active at the time. I don't recall seeing anything that wasn't an AM signal on the waterfall but there might have been something while I was out.

What other low channels (below 26.965 MHz) were active other than 26585 AM / 26.585 MHz? 26705 AM / 26.705 MHz (and nearby frequencies 26.685 MHz, 26.695 MHz, 26.715 MHz, etc.) are often busy when 26.585 and others are active.  26.595 MHz is apparently the "secret" channel for Mexican truckers.  26.605 MHz is the alternate.

Since 26.585 is channel 7 "down one band", most export radios jump from 26.585 to 26.605 MHz (channel 8 down one band), the only way to get to 26.595 MHz is to use the +10 kHz switch (to get to channel 7A).  I've talked to 11m guys in France and other parts of Europe who have heard Mexican Spanish voices on 26.585 MHz AM and 26.595 MHz AM when propagation to Europe is good...which is pretty crazy when you think about it.  26.565 MHz to 26.955 MHz are authorized CB frequencies in several European countries (in FM mode only, however, as channels 41-80 in straight 10 kHz channel sequence, no skips).  I know that's the case in Germany, the Czech Republic and Hungary - and probably other countries.

Channels 1 - 40 are the same as the American CB band plan (CEPT/European standard band plan), then,
26.565 MHz - Channel 41
26.575 MHz - Channel 42
...
26.945 MHz - Channel 79
26.955 MHz - Channel 80

As an aside - I know I go off topic - I use both kHz and MHz notation on the 11m board because most folks searching these frequencies in their favorite search engine are more likely to use MHz notation, but its unofficial HFU policy to use kHz notation.

I'm hearing a bunch on 27.025 and lower right now, picking it up with a discone with VHF-low whip up at about 35'.

Excellent.  Is 26.915 MHz (or nearby) active too?

Sorry, just noticed this.  I'll check it out today.  I start my scans at 26.965 for the obvious reason...I need to get into the "unauthorized" mindset.
