Good morning, Linkz.

Here are some words to you logs:

Quote
3192.2 USB Danish navy, JWT Stavanger - STANAG-4285 2400Bd/600L crypto (TDoA verified) 18May19 2121z

Sorry, not correct: Either we have Norwegian Navy in Stavanger or Danish Navy in Frederikshavn. I bet you meant Norwegeian Navy as they have a transmitter site in the vicinity of Stavanger. Their commcen is in Bodoe. Such as you mentioned in

Quote
10438.2 USB Norway navy, JXU Bodo - STANAG-4285 2400Bd/600L crypto (TDoA verified) 03May19 1402z

And just one question from my side:

Quote
22682.7 USB Spanish MIL stn, from Gran Canaria Isl. maybe Las Huesas site ? - STANAG-4285 2400Bd/600L crypto (TDoA verified) 12May19 1507z

Where exactely did the TDoA results point to? Do you have any fruther or detailed coordinates?

Kind regards.

Hi Thomas

Thanks for the error report,
For some reasons I often get confused between those 2 countries when I log them. The right text is of course "Norway navy, JWT Stavanger"

Concerning 22682.7 now:
First, it was not an easy target, I've tried many times to discriminate TX sites between EBA, CTA, 6WW and even Ascension. Nothing precise and conclusive enough.
That frequency, at this time of year, was copied only by a few nodes from SW EUR + the one from Puerto Rico (no GPS) and some from Brazil.
I got many confusing results and tried to get the most plausible ones and all seem to point to Gran Canaria islands, which was not really a good thing as I never seen any logs for S4285 streams coming from those islands.
Also, I saw EBA was mentionned in some logs for 22682.7 but I've also TDoA'ed 22594.7 (also EBA for some logs) and this one returned accurate enough results to Madrid (using the same nodes)....
There was also slightly differences for the both frequencies when i've checked them simulteanously using the 2 remotes located in South-East Spain. It can be also due to antenna beams who knows..

The most accurate TDoA return was 29.3N 14.7W
as seen here: http://81.93.247.141/~linkz/directTDoA/runs/22682.7/TDoA_22684000_12May2019_195944z.pdf
(Check the whole directory for all my previous attemps)

In Gran Canaria there is a big HF site here: 27°58'55.75"N 15°24'23.37"W https://goo.gl/maps/B57FrbpUs8zLcmeq8
I don't really know who owns it, Spanish MIL or some international SIGINT stuff ?

It's pretty close to Telde but I doubt it's the HFDL aeronautical site, it's way too large.

I suppose the HFDL one is here: 27°57'41.07"N 15°24'21.11"W ? https://goo.gl/maps/N6PaHiRDeUg6a8yz8 but i can't confirm as well as I've not found the real coordinates using online ICAO files yet. do you have them ?

Maybe there are other HF sites on those islands ?, I've not really checked, and can it be from a warship ?
Do the spanish navy really have something there ? I know some other SIGINT sites over there but nothing HF so far

Regards

Good morning, linkz.

Thank you for your answer, which I would like to discuss.

I think that you are not mistaken with the big Telde transmitter station - in fact it really could be a Spanish Navy facility. So far I was not aware that Madrid maintains a remote station there. So thanks for the link to Google Maps.

Even with the geographical address for ARINC Telde (HFDL) you are correct in my opinion. For my documentation I use the information on the blog page UTILITY-PLANET, for example -> http://mt-utility.blogspot.com/2017/03/hfdl-system-table-50-in-effect.html
The position data at the very end of the page ("Ground Station ID 17 CANARIAS - SPAIN") point a little too far to the east, so almost to the airport area itself. But here it is as often with position information: the inaccuracy is in the detail.

In my opinion a permanent STANAG4285 signal does not come from a ship. Most of these signals are so-called "broadcasts", in the jargon also Shore-to-Ship traffic. Running over are - encrypted - weather reports, situation pictures, orders and further military correspondence.

But I do not have any more information.

According to Googlemaps the bus station in front of the site is called "Alerta y Control".
So this might be the tx site of Spanish AF GRUALERCON - Grupo de Alerta y Control (callsign "Papayo"). But maybe also used for Civil Operations.

In this article http://www.tecnologiaeinnovacion.defensa.gob.es/Lists/Publicaciones/Attachments/194/boletin-de-observacion-tecnologica-n%C2%BA-44.pdf STANAG transmission from Almatriche, GC are mentioned.
There is indeed a pixeled area in Almatriche

It´s difficult to find a Streetview spot to watch on the top of this hill as all streets near the area are on a lower level, but it looks like that there are antennas:

Hey

Great find of the Almatriche site, it's a better candidate for a TX site indeed, i see 2 huge LPDA in there
Maybe the other one (Las Huesas) is the associated RX site !?

And ok for the "Grupo de Alerta y Control" HF site, it's also a good guess

Unfortunatly, for both, there is not good enough aerial view rez to be 100% sure about where the microwave dishes at pointing to.

thx for your searches & comments
