I'm tuned to 27025.  A guy is calling "579" and mentioned he's still on a dipole.  He's now razzing the "new kid" who has been "quiet lately."

Good ol' 27.025 MHz CB channel 6 a.k.a. "The Superbowl".

If DX is rolling in on channel 6, check channels 11 (27.085 MHz), 26 (27.265 MHz) and 28 (27.285 MHz) for other big gun AM stations and of course 27.385 LSB / Channel 38 LSB and the frequencies around it for SSB DXers.

If 27.025 is really rolling, check the low channel AM DX frequencies (clustered around 26.915 MHz, secondaries are 26.905 MHz, 26.925 MHz, 26.885 MHz, 26.895 MHz, 26.835 MHz, 26.815 MHz, 26.775 MHz and others - 10 kHz steps).  26.715 MHz and nearby frequencies 26.705 MHz and 26.725 MHz will often also be busy with Spanish speaking big gun AM stations.  Some of them are in the USA and Puerto Rico but also various other locations in the Caribbean and Latin America (if the band is open to that part of the country).

Roger that.  How many watts you figure the loudmouths on The Superbowl are pushing?

The guys I met that did that were running up to 10,000 watts. Most all of the drive Chevy Suburbans so they can space out their 2 element custom vertical arrays properly. Also they need a large engine to power the multiple alternators they have. Lots of custom brackets to attach them and customs belts as well. usually they have $5,000 or more invested. $4,950 and another $50.00 for the Cobra or Uniden radio their using.

Gotta love the "shoot out" videos on YouTube of guys in old Suburbans with a dozen alternators and massive custom built amplifiers, power output in the tens of kilowatts on CB.  Seems like most of these guys are running either a Cobra 29, a Uniden 78 or a Galaxy rig of some kind or another (generally an AM or AM/FM only radio).  Base stations will be running all sorts of things, including the famous Cobra 2000 base station or any of the various Galaxy and RCI/Ranger base stations that fit in a standard 19" rack.

Currently tuned into the Superbowl channel six (27025) at of 26 JUL at 1752 UTC, using both my standard SWL rx (Satellit 750 and W6LVP active loop) and my ham one (IC-7100 currently attached to the 6m j-pole, which is pretty good at SW rx above 10 MHz). It's interesting to hear how I can hear one guy from TN *not* be drowned out by a more local loudmouth on the Icom. Most of the time I'm hearing the same thing in both rigs but the Icom definitely is giving a lesson in selectivity at times.

I watched a couple of the shootout videos R4002 had mentioned. I had never seen that extreme of a level. The structures they mounted to their vehicles to accommodate those antennas was insane. Also there is a part where it shows an antenna arcing that looks like a power line arc. I would be curious  what the cost of a custom built amp that puts out 10,000 watts or more would cost? If anyone has an idea please chime in.

Probably close to a dollar to a watt, if you count the cost of buying the vehicle with the full size V8, all the additional alternators, driver amplifier l, secondary driver (if applicable) and final amplifier.  Plus you have all the wiring, shielding, capacitors and everything else for running high-amperage DC safely.  Then you have the custom feedline and antenna setup....my understanding is that some of these guys run custom AC powered setups instead of DC, but I don’t know any specifics.

We’re also neglecting the AC powered base stations with several 220/240 volt powered amplifiers or DC powered amps with custom built power supplies for base station usage.
