« on: August 13, 2019, 2032 UTC »
Good evening to all, I tried the Iann's Pirate Chat link,
but it doesn't work! Does anyone else have problems?

Yes, it has been down -- we have emailed to him to ask what the situation is.

I was able to get in by first logging into the XAT site, then by clicking on the HFU link in the drop down menu on "HFU Special Sites". Remember to close out of the XAT once you get in to Iann's
QSL's to poorbrookking >at< aol.com are greatly appreciated! All reception and postings using My radio, My antenna, and generally in real time(excluding posting of SSTV images!).

That's ALWAYS the case -- you have to sign out of one to use the other.  This is a major outage.

I’m a ‘me too’ victim also.  There has been no connectivity for IOS devices (at least IPAD AIR 2 running the most recent IOS) and PCs running WINDOWS 10.  I have been successful monitoring the chatroom, but have no been able to get the chatroom software to allow me to change my name that was assigned to me when I logged in.  I can either passively read the chatroom, or not be involved at all.  It is interesting that users in the USA, UK, IT, and other countries have had issues, but BE, GE, NE have not.  Hopefully Iann will be able to get the chatroom restored.

Just make a search for : xat html5
and you'll find that result :

Flash vs. HTML5 - xat wiki
https://util.xat.com/wiki/index.php?title=Flash_vs_html5
xat has decided to move from Flash to HTML5 and this article
is here to explain the reason for the move,
and the advantages that HTML5 carries over Flash.
Flash Those animations could be embedded on webpages,
which made it a very popular resource at the time.

So the move is more or less in progress on various parts of Internet ?
And maybe I'll soon be on xat,
but up to now, I need a true newbie 101 basic info about xat and the pirate chat.

Ray Lalleu’s explanation makes sense given that Flash is going away next year.  As an IOS user, that’s great because making the chatroom ‘non-Flash’ will make it better for IOS users.  I can’t wait...but I just wish it would be instantaneous!  We need the chatroom NOW!!

Unlike me, you are able to follow Ray's explanation; therefore I take my hat off to you.

The chatroom posters had stated that statesiders who were frequent posters were unable
to access the chatroom very recently, but that Iann had been informed promptly of the glitch.

Here in the PRC, I am able to access the chatroom only when my internet dial-up speed is high,
which is between about 1730 UTC and 0900 UTC the following day. However, I am unable
to contribute to the chatroom on account of the great firewall of China.

This still does not explain the drop in access.  It should
Still be accessible whether html5 or using a browser
exception to allow temporary use of flash

An update from here in the East coast of the US....Still can't get an active path into the chatroom, altho both the hfunderground path and the Dr. Tim path allows me to monitor the chatroom, which is better than nothing...The problem started a day ago, and up to now the only way I can communicate with the Chatroom is via Dr. Tim's link or  hfunderground, with Adobe Flash activated.  This doesn't bode well for next year after October 2020 when Flash goes away.  I want to thank Terry and Dan from the US, and Paul, Panda, and so many others that have given good suggestions, albeit an issue for almost all I guess.  I'll be monitoring and maybe putting things up on hfunderground instead of PirateChat2011 until it is fixed.

Maybe someone should set up an alternative free radio chatroom which doesn't use Xat.com. There must be others out there. It could serve as a back up when Iann's chat isn't working properly.

I presume the link above is an alternative link that works for us all in the role of mere viewers of the chatroom's posts.

I confirm that the link works for me in that respect.

The Doctor Tim channel does not work -- I get a Connection Problem notice and cannot
sign in or establish my usual name.   Momentarily I get connectivity but cannot successfully
sign in.

It is clearly very frustrating to experience such a problem in the specific country in which you reside!

Where I am, I have just discovered that Wiktionary has been blocked; it never used to be - this is yet another frustration of mine!

(I had tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to access a link provided on another board by a poster who is an unlicensed broadcaster
to back up his assertion that 5799 Khz AM is to all intents and purposes within the ITU broadcast bands.)
