Fair reception in Hausa.  Football match between Dortmund and Augsburg.  Also on 17840 but no reception here today on that frequency.  This marks the opening of the third consecutive season of Bundesliga coverage by DW in Hausa.  Broadcast runs 1325-1530 utc on match weekends.

1450 The second of two goals by Dortmund inside 2 minutes to blow the match open, 4-1, with a half hour remaining.  Two OM's in excited/giddy delivery over the quick brace.

Just thinking:  The BBC broadcasts the Premier league in English on shortwave.  Sensible as they have ex-pats worldwide, the PL is growing in America, it is considered the best football league in the world, and it is the perfect, near year round live content for their regularly scheduled Sportsworld program. Plus, many Europeans and Africans speak English as well as those in Oceania and on the Subcontinent.

REE broadcasts La Liga in Spanish on shortwave.  Once again, they have ex-pats around the world.  There are many star players from South/Central America in La Liga and it is the second best league in the world.

DW broadcasts the Bundesliga on shortwave to Western Africa in the Hausa language.  Huh?  They are not appealing to ex-pats, nor many other parts of the world.  My guess is the Bundesliga is orchestrating this programming in conjunction with DW.  First, grow a fan base in west Africa.  Second, by creating a fan base in west Africa they may make in roads to recruiting players.

The Premier League has its pick of talent from around the world, most recently Pulisic from Pennsylvania.  La Liga mines the Spanish speaking countries from the Western Hemisphere for talent.  Ligue 1 is populated by Africans in countries that were once French colonies.  Serie A rosters many Northern Africans from countries that send migrants to Sicily.  Outside of Turkey, the Bundesliga does not have a natural non-domestic hotbed of players.  Methinks DW and the Bundesliga are working in concert to sow some seed.  An interesting use of Governmental Broadcasting but it was always their mission to be influential over entertaining.
