V24 log, October 2019
« on: October 03, 2019, 1437 UTC »
03 OCT 2019, 1430 UTC, 5290 kHz: carrier detected at home QTH but no audio. Signal poor to fair with some good peaks at "soy sauce" kiwi SDR in Chiba prefecture, Japan, but heavy QRM from radar signal of some sort. They're still airing the same music that they have been broadcasting on this frequency since V24 re-emerged from its months-long break in early 2016. Very brief message today, station went QRT at 1437z.

07 OCT 2019, 1430 UTC, 5290 kHz: Repeat of 03 and 05 OCT per usual V24 protocol, but the reception was much better today at "soy sauce" Kiwi SDR in Chiba, Japan, SIO 555 though another station was audible while the carrier was unmodulated and even during the numbers portion. Carrier stayed on much later after end of message though, til 1440:56z. The other station ceased being heard, so my guess is that it was another station in Seoul mixing with V24. (For those who don't know, the suspected transmitter site for V24 is in one of Seoul's northside suburbs.) Carrier was detectable at home QTH in Denver, a first for me for such a low V24 frequency this far ahead of the days when these broadcasts coincide with dawn in Colorado. Will see if 6310, which I haven't tried to copy this month, is audible tomorrow at 1530z.

The cross modulation on V24 has been noted for some time now, not sure exactly when it started but I know it was heard last month for sure.

The only freq used by V24 so far this month has been 5290 kHz, neither 6215 nor 6310 kHz have been used at their scheduled times.  So I suspect you will not hear it tomorrow ;)

It is not unusual for some freqs to become every other month events, right now it looks like 6310 kHz was used last month, and 5290 kHz was not.  S0 for the last few months if the 5290 kHz sched was active the 6310 kHz sched would not be, and the other way around also.

Thanks for the info. Probably my best bet at hearing any modulated audio will be when the time to broadcast on 5715 rolls around - if they use that frequency this month.

Ary, I assume you mean 4925 kHz and not 4915 kHz?

Note that it was indeed a K-Pop song, however this time slot should have been Dvorak.  A little station operator error me thinks.

11-10 was also 4925 kHz. Sorry about that

19 OCT, 1500 UTC, 5715 AM, weakly copyable here in Denver. Unfortunately I had some QRM from something local which made it too frustrating to try to listen to and log the end time.

21 OCT, 1500 UTC, 5715 AM, weakly copyable here in Denver but better than it was on the 19th. No local QRM this time either. This frequency is still using a K-Pop song whose title is "Cheer Up" in English - I think it's the only one that I bothered to learn, although the links provided to videos of each at Chobi.net were mostly straight Korean without any English translations. This is a good sign for copying V24 at my QTH for the long night months of November - January. QRT at 1509 UTC.
