Possibly KCMX 880 khz 0440 UTC 10 Oct 2019

OK, this is a weird one by virtue of the distance and reported power.

I THINK I just heard KCMX on 880 khz into New Braunfels, TX.  The strange thing about that is the distance of this hop is about 1,623 miles (from Phoenix, OR).  Also, a quick check of Wikipedia tells me that this station operates with only 1,000 watts of power.  Now, according to the KCMX website, they were airing "The Clark Howard Show" at this time, which is what I heard....but over sixteen hundred miles away? Could that really be the case?

Here, judge for yourself.

Is This KCMX?

Hearing a 1 kw station 1600 miles away at night is not out of the question.
However, another affiliate,  per the show's website, is KRVN in NE on that same freq with a 50 kw nighttime sig beamed southward.
So, without a TOH ID, the NE station would be a more likely guess.

Matt,

If you can null out KRVN,  880 can be an interesting freq to DX from your TX location.
There are stations in Mexico as well as NM... KHAC, and CA... KKMC, but they run low power (NM) or beam away from you (CA) at night.
There is also a 1000 watter (nighttime) station in TX... KJOZ.
Here in MI, 880 is pretty much dominated by 50kw WCBS in NYC at night.

I'm much closer to KCMX, but that signal does indeed carry well from Southern Oregon. It regularly overpowers local KIXI on 880 here near Seattle.
