Radio Free Whatever 4185 USB 0054 UTC 24 December 2019

s9 on a 160/80 meter fan dipole using a Yaesu ft-890. Audio sounds like a microphone put in front of a speaker. Sounds awful. Heard "Radio Free Whatever" more than once.

After signing off I'm hearing another station on this frequency in USB and I swear I heard the OM say "DJ Dickweed" but maybe I'm just having a nervous breakdown and imagining it. Is anyone else hearing any of this? The signal was very very faint. Sub S unit level and almost not there....fading on the fringe.

I heard the weak signal, as well. No s meter bump, though. Sounded like rock music, but I could be wrong.

Tennessee, I knew of two very well known, and well heard different pirates, who taped the key down their handheld mics and ran the audio in via one side of a pair of headphones taped to the mic.  One never wised up, the other did, and sounded about as good as you could tx'ing in SSB in those days, like squawking gulls over a dump.

I'm enjoying the pirate listening near amateur bands. I'll soon be making some more dipoles, especially for 40 and 75 meters. My current antennas are coax (75 ohm CATV) fed and cut for the CW portions.
