list of hamfest cancellations
« on: March 16, 2020, 0229 UTC »
As you may have heard, the Dayton Hamvention has been cancelled this
year due to the COVID-19 national emergency. Here's the announcement:
https://hamvention.org/committee-cancels-hamvention-2020/

The ARRL is keeping a list of hamfest cancellations at:
http://www.arrl.org/hamfests/search/page:1/keywords:Canceled/model:Event

If you have cancelled your hamfest, please let me know - at this point
we are assuming a scheduled hamfest will be on unless a cancellation
notice is received at HQ. I will forward any messages that I receive to
Eric Casey at HQ and he will confirm via email to the contact listed on
the registration and then put it on the cancelled list.

If you need to check the status of any hamfest, check:
http://www.arrl.org/hamfests-and-conventions-calendar

Many events have been cancelled, stores and restaurants are closing
early and many schools are out. Several section leaders have scheduled
"report in" nets so that we can let each other know that we're okay or
if we need personal help.

Frank Dean, SEC in the Georgia Section sent me the a note about a net
they're running in Georgia. This is an excellent idea, and I encourage
each section to establish an easy to check in net, perhaps without a
roll-call, to allow those who might not otherwise check in,

The Georgia COVID-19 net is on 3.971 and D-STAR REF030B. Check in with
Call, name, County, utility’s & family status.

I encourage each of you to start a cadence of checking into these nets,
particularly if you live off the beaten path or are in a high risk
category for this virus. We want to get you help if you get sick!

We are hunkered down with my family in rural Palm Beach County and are
avoiding contact as much as possible. Please stay safe, follow the
instructions published by CDC and other government agencies.

73,

Thanks, Al. Those guys and girls in the Gulf states do an excellent job during Hurricane season.
